Want to taste some of Italy’s best food? Head for the region of Emilia-Romagna. After all, the city of Bologna has an unofficial reputation as the country’s culinary capital. Bologna is also home to Europe’s oldest university, dating back to the 11th century. For food, the delightful university city of Parma is a close second to Bologna. Prosciutto di Parma ham and Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese were born here. The small cities of Ravenna (for the mosaics) and Ferrara (for castles and palaces) are also must-visits.
