From Modena to Abbey Road Studios: A Dream Made Into A Song

The last thing I expected a few mornings ago (waking up in Malta for our last day of filming an episode for Dream of Europe) was that the story of a dream of a song- a little idea that was born in Modena that made it all the way to Abbey Road Studios- would be on the front page of Il Resto del Carlino newspaper.

I should know by now that serendipity and surprise live in the air in Modena- a place I visited a year ago to interview Massimo Bottura and Lara Gilmore, an experience life-changing in itself. Through filming in Modena I also met Alessandro Roveri who has become a dear friend, and he agreed to compose the theme music for my new show Dream of Europe.

In the article, our journalist friend and music critic Stefano Marchetti described it as “a song with an evocative and even romantic tone, in which you can feel the echoes of the European tradition but also of contemporaneity, a very suggestive soundtrack.” Alessandro magically composed an emotional, deep, dreamy song that took on a life of its own. There is so much to say about it and I look forward to sharing it with you.

Maestro Roveri also wrote a lyrical version which we recorded with a great British crooner and the lyrics might inspire you:

Life is a truth to be told,
It’s a spark
It’s a tale that unfolds

Life is a flight through the dark,
Make your choice,
Use your heart

Hey hold on… we just made a dream into a song.

We will premiere the music soon. In the meantime I leave you with this: remember that sometimes in the craziest of ways- when you least expect it- dreams truly do come true! – Kathy
