In the Bologna episode of the second season of Dream of Italy on PBS, Kathy makes a visit to the historic University of Bologna.
Founded in 1088, the University of Bologna is the oldest university in the western world. Especially notable are its Archiginnasio Library and Anatomi- cal Theater (Piazza Galvani, 1). Once the main building of the university, the 16th-century Archigin- nasio Library holds more than 850,000 volumes and is now the city’s public library. On the upper floor of the building is the Anatomical Theater (3€), which was originally built in 1638 to accommodate anato- my lectures at the medical school and was decorat- ed with wooden sculptures of ancient physicians and Apollo, the god of medicine.
