Lajatico, in the Tuscan province of Pisa, is the home of the annual Teatro Del Silenzio. The city’s star son, Andrea Bocelli, acts as the protagonist of the show and his booming voice echoes throughout the theater and his native town.
The amphitheater in Lajatico was built into the dips and curves of the mountains and perfectly fits into the natural landscape like a puzzle piece. It was built 12 years ago at the request of Andrea Bocelli himself. When the theater is not hosting any events, some of the stage is dismantled and the area becomes an artificial lake.
On July 25 and July 27, 2019 at 8:30 pm, the Teatro Del Silenzio will hold a concert starring the maestro. This year is unusual in that there are two shows (Bocelli usually only performs for one night) and the performances will be recorded by television cameras for the first time, even though the magic of the theater and hearing Bocelli’s voice live cannot be fully captured by the cameras. He brings a spirit of place to wherever he is heard live that gives listeners chills and goosebumps.
From a logistics point of view, the show is painstakingly organized to near perfection. There are designated parking areas for those who are coming by car with shuttle services provided. Additionally, many buses leave from other Tuscan cities and conveniently deliver guests to the theatre grounds.
It’s recommended that tickets be bought months in advance via a trusted ticket seller or directly from the organizers, City Sound SRL. One of the most beloved voices in the world, hearing Bocelli sing, enveloped by the Tuscan hills, on a July night, surrounded by a gifted cast and beautiful scenery will be an experience to remember. — Danielle Abbazia
