Ludika 1243 derives its name from the Italian adjective ludico which sounds similar to our English “ludicrous” but, unlike our version of the word, the theme here is a mere playful and carefree spirit. A perfect adjective to describe this historical reenactment that takes place in San Pellegrino, the oldest city in Viterbo, in the month of July from the 11th – 14th & the 18th – 21st. This 13th Century adventure in the region of Lazio offers people of all ages to come out and join noblemen, ladies, princes, beggars, inquisitors and artisans, participate in outdoor games in the piazza dei giochi (games square), watch brave fire-eaters, take arms up in duels, learn how to entertain in the classic jester manner, and even witness the battle between the Guelph and Ghibelline armies.
