Strawberry Festival in Rome

The Strawberry Festival in Nemi is celebrating its 86th anniversary. Located on the outskirts of Rome, this lovely little town sits next to Lake Albano. The event kicks off with the holy mass at the Santuario di Santissimo Crocifisso, and later continues with the parade through the town where le fragolare dance in their traditional costume (long red skirt, white blouse, and black bodice) and carrying baskets of strawberries. Before wrapping up the evening with literal fireworks, visitors are treated with the free strawberry distribution.

How to get there:

To reach Nemi by bus (from Rome), go to the Anagnina Metro stop in Osteria del Curato. From here, take the CoTral bus heading for Genzano. At Genzano, change buses, taking the one marked NEMI. Service is every 30 minutes during the day.
