Every last Sunday of October this medieval archery competition attracts thousands of spectators to the town of Montalcino in Tuscany. This tradition originated as a series of events during the Feast of the Thrush in the 13th Century. The weekend starts off on Saturday morning with the inviting song and performance of Il Trescone, a Florentine folk group. Leading up to the archery competition between the four “rival” quartieri of the town on Sunday where residents dress in the corresponding quartieri colors.
