Tarquinia (Lazio): Giostra delle Contrade

The coastal town of Tarquinia hosts its annual Giostra delle Contrade, reenacting the knighting of three noble men, Cornetani Sante, Alessandro Vitelleschi, and Piergiovanni Paolo Sacchi, in 1452. Tarquinia celebrates the event with equestrian games, banquets, knights and dancing. Knights representing the seven districts of Tarquinia compete against each other and use lances to remove rings suspended from a statue, while riding full speed on horseback.
