Turin is surely Italy’s most unsung city. It has everything — rich culture, world-class museums, stunning views of the Alps and have I mentioned that Turin offers some of the very best food and wine in all of Italy? I was lucky enough to spend nearly a month living in Turin while attending the Winter Olympics in 2006 and I dream of maybe someday living like a local there again.

Contributing writer Kevin Raub takes us to this captivating city as only he can. I beg you to take some of Kevin’s advice and add this city to the itinerary for your next Italian trip. Elegant and enchanting, Turin will open your eyes to yet another color in the kaleidoscope that is Italy.

Dream of Italy is all about seeing the places we love — and maybe even the crowded spots the whole world loves — in new ways but also exploring those less-visited Italian treasures. I had some time this fall to add some new destinations to a road trip that spanned the length of the boot, and I’m thrilled to share my discoveries.

Bolzano (in Trentino-Alto Adige), so close to the German border, and Trani, at the top of the Italian heel, on the surface feel like worlds away — and they are — but both represent unique aspects of the Italian experience especially in terms of how the landscape influence a place’s culture. I adored them both and hope you will too.
