Not to be confused with its Russian counterpart, the Italian Trans-Siberian Railway was built in 1897 and was renovated in 2014. Historic train cars carry passengers through Abruzzo on special trips during the summer and winter, and panoramic views abound the entire trip, including while passing through Parco Nazionale della Maiella. The route climbs more than 4,000 feet from Sulmona to Carpinone, stopping to let travelers explore for a bit before returning to Sulmona. For more information, visit www.fondazionefs.it
