In the small village of Torrita di Siena, less than an hour from Siena and 15 minutes north of famed wine area Montepulciano, sits Sial, an enchanting ceramics shop and factory, with its rustic brick store front and windows filled with colorful treasures.
Founded by artist Loretta Ferretti, the name Sial is coined from the first two letters of the names of her children, (Silvia and Alberto). The business opened in 1997, born from Loretta’s lifelong love of painting and a desire to create items that reflect her beloved countryside. Within the same walls as the retail shop is housed the company’s ceramics production.
The Ferretti family has lived in Torrita di Siena all their lives, with Loretta actually living above her jewel box of a store.

The unique style of painting-in-relief is Loretta’s specialty. Everything is drawn by hand with exquisite detail, showcasing Sial’s hallmark Tuscan landscape motif. Loretta is the lead artist, while daughter Silvia runs the business end of things (both wholesale and running the retail shop).
