From The TV Show: Plautilla Nelli in Florence

In the Florence episode of the second season of Dream of Italy on PBS, Kathy views a restoration of the only Last Supper painted by a woman.

Florence’s first woman artist, nun Plautilla Nelli, has been at the center of a 10-year restoration project spearheaded by the Advancing Women Artists Foundation. Multiple paintings by the 16th-century painter have been researched, rescued and displayed at Florence’s museums, including the Last Supper Museum of Andrea del Sarto. Nelli’s newly restored Annunciation has recently been exhibited on the mezzazine of Palazzo Vecchio’s museum, and her large-scale Last Supper (restoration seen on our TV show) will become part of the Santa Maria Novella Museum in 2019.
