The palio\, held annually on the last Sunday in July\, originates from an attempted invasion in 1495. At Dawn\, the faithful participants of the march congregate in the square outside the cathedral. They sing songs as they follow a cart decorated with ears of wheat and oleanders all the way to the statue. Once the parade reaches the statue\, a mass is sung. After mass the procession quietly returns to the town before another colorful parade with masks and traditional costumes takes place.
